COVID-19 Crisis: Luas Security Team Member Volunteers with Blood Bikes East

Transdev Ireland employee, Alan McCrohan works on the frontlines of the Dublin Light Rail Luas System as a System Security Team Leader patrolling Luas infrastructure during service and responding to security related incidents and emergencies. When he is not working with Luas Alan is helping to save lives by volunteering as an emergency medical transport courier between 22 hospitals in Dublin and the greater Dublin area.

Alan combined his love of riding motorcycles and passion for helping his community and became a volunteer RoSPA Silver rider with Blood Bikes East – something he has been doing for the past 18 months.

Originally founded in 2012 Blood Bikes East provides an emergency medical transport service transferring needed blood, blood products / samples, breast milk for premature babies, patient charts and records, discs / scans between hospitals, labs and other essential items between the hospitals in Dublin city and the greater Dublin area. This is all done by volunteers, such as Alan, in their free time for no financial reward and completely FREE of charge to its contracted hospitals.

Since the COVID-19 outbreak Blood Bikes East have seen an unprecedented 25% increase in the need of their serviced. The charity has been working directly with the HSE picking up tests from hospitals and transporting them to laboratories to be examined and transporting other vital items to hospitals as required.

Transdev sincerely thanks Alan McCrohan as well as every member of the Blood Bikes East charity, especially those who have given even more of their time to help flatten the curve of COVID-19.
