“I thought, is this it? Am I going to die?” Barry Scully, Customer Assurance Controller’s experience with COVID-19

We are now more than 1 year into the COVID-19 pandemic and in that time we have all had to adopt new habits to protect ourselves and each other from catching COVID-19.One proven, simple step we can all take to protect each other is making sure we wear a face covering any time we are in a shared space, particularly where maintaining physical distancing of 2 metres or more is not possible or in enclosed spaces.A number of our own colleagues have had and currently have COVID-19. One colleague who has fortunately come out the other side of a long and scary battle with COVID is Barry Scully, Customer Assurance Controller.Barry had COVID-19 in January and was in an intensive care unit for 2 and a half weeks, during which time he was intubated, on a ventilator, on a number of IV lines, and isolated from his family on a COVID ward in Kilkenny. He is still dealing with the effects of COVID-19 and will continue to deal with these effects for at least the next 8 months. Barry is sharing his experience with COVID-19 to remind us of the importance of wearing a face covering and maintaining good hand hygiene:
We thank all staff who are following COVID-19 public health advice and protecting their colleagues by maintaining good hand hygiene and wearing face coverings in shared spaces.
