Transdev teamed up with Inner City Helping Homeless (ICHH) again this year for our fourth annual Fill a Luas event at Connolly Luas stop on Thursday December 6th. Our colleagues, ICHH, and volunteers from various companies in Dublin were there from 7am – 7pm and kept the event running smoothly, organising the shoeboxes for delivery to ICHH’s depot as the tram filled to the brim with wonderful gifts throughout the day.
Thanks to the generosity of schools and colleges, community groups, businesses, and the general public, we broke our record and collected over 21,100 shoeboxes filled with gifts for homeless families on the day.
This year we also ran Fill a Luas week which allowed members of the public and local businesses to drop their donations to our depots in Broombridge and Red Cow from the 3rd to the 7th of December.
The theme of the event this year was “Family”, with Santa giving gifts to the children, food being provided throughout the day, and a barber even closing his doors for the day so his staff could provide haircuts to the homeless people who attended. This family theme was extremely important to ICHH this year as the figure for homeless families has risen by 460% since we first started doing this event 4 years ago.
The atmosphere on the day and the generosity of the public made this the best year for Fill a Luas to date and we look forward to making next year even bigger and better.
